Aimee Lou Wood suggested her portrayal on the sketch show was misogynistic

The White Lotus star Aimee Lou Wood has criticized a recent Saturday Night Live (SNL) sketch that parodied her with exaggerated prosthetic teeth, calling it "mean and unfunny."

The British actress accused the long-running U.S. comedy show of "punching down" and implied the sketch had misogynistic undertones.

In a series of Instagram posts, the 31-year-old said she’s open to being the butt of a joke “when it’s clever and in good spirits,” but felt the segment lacked sophistication, adding there must be “a more nuanced, less cheap” way to do comedy.

Wood later revealed that she received apologies from SNL following her comments. The BBC has reached out to the show’s network, NBC, for a statement.
